Climate summit COP30: cutting down Amazon forest for what ?

Amazon De-forestation for COP-30

The Amazon rainforest, often known as “Earth’s lungs”, is facing a new injury. Which is being given in the name of climate protection. In November 2025, the United Nations Climate Summit is preparing to host COP30 in Brazil (in Belem). For this, a controversial project is going on from the middle of the forest. 13 km long road called Avnida Liberaded. To handle a crowd of more than 50,000 visitors, it is being described as a “permanent” solution but, due to this, there has been a debate in the world on environmental integrity and honesty of global climatic efforts.
It is necessary to mention that Amazon plays an important role in absorbing carbon dioxide and maintaining biodiversity. Knowing this, its trees are being cut for a large number of that summit, which, have been represented to strengthen the claim of dealing with the ecological crisis. Critics, including scientists and protectionists, argue that, this one-cut (forest) breaks the delicate ecosystem. Places wildlife and weakens the goals of COP30. After years of legal and environmental objections, many people are considering this project as a growing step in the backward direction. Hundreds of thousands of wild trees are not like a hypocrisy to make only a paved road.

For the local people, it is proving to be even more and immediate side effects. Claudio Verekete, who lives near this road construction area, says in the help of helplessness, “My Akai crop, his main source of income, was destroyed.” Displaced without compensation. ‘Claudio verequte’ represents the human value of the decision that prefers more logistics than livelihood. According to a local report, “They talk about saving the planet, but they are snatching everything (humans on earth) everything.”
The Brazilian government is trying to defend itself on this burning issue. She is trying to cut the forest and prove the road construction work right from it. The Brazilian government claims that it will make traffic easier. This road being built by cutting wild trees will strengthen the permanent infrastructure of the country. Environmentalists warn that the damage goes far beyond the severed trees. Such roads often open the way for illegal wood harvesting and further encroachment.
When leaders from all over the world will gather to talk about the solution of climate crisis in Balem. Then they will all stand on the road built on the same land which has been prepared by cutting a wild tree to welcome them.
The message is clear: more work is spoken than words. This road being constructed by cutting the forest of Amazon is writing the story of contradiction and ruin for our current and future generations. No one should be doubted in this. Is the summit being called on the waste of rainforest, is actually being organized to save humans and forests?
